Spotify finally brings dark theme to iPad
Mon, 3rd Nov 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Popular music subscription service Spotify updated its official iPad app on Thursday with a new look in line with its iPhone client, while also giving users access to the "Your Music" feature. As tablets become increasingly popular as a platform for home listening, Spotify has launched a new look for iPad.

Spotify is available in 58 markets globally with more than 40 million active users, and over 10 million paying subscribers. Since its launch in Sweden in 2008, Spotify has driven more than US$1bn to rights holders. Spotify is now the second biggest source of digital music revenue for labels in Europe, and the biggest and most successful music streaming service of its kind globally.

The new look brings Spotify’s dark theme, refreshed typography and rounded iconography that can be seen on the mobile and desktop platforms.

Spotify says their data shows tablets are one the most popular platforms when it comes to discovering, curating and saving music, and that their users have been looking for more ways of managing their music.

The company has launched Your Music to iPad: helping users save, organise and browse their favourite music.

The new design makes accessing music a very smooth process. The new dark theme and refined interface lets the content come forward and ‘pop’, just like in a cinema when you dim the lights.

Users can save albums and flick through their cover art, gather favourite artists and create playlists for every mood and moment.

The new version has the same look across all the different devices. Regardless of whether a user may be curating; at home, listening on the go, or trying to make your workday go faster, users  can now enjoy the same great look across all devices.

“Your Music is the perfect iPad feature,” says Dave Price, director of product at Spotify. “In fact, our users have been telling us that the tablet is one of their favourite devices when it comes to browsing, curating and saving music. And with our new design, our iPad users can enjoy the best-looking experience of any music service - one that’s easy to use and consistent across all devices.”

The new Spotify for iPad has already begun rolling out and can be downloaded through the App Store.

Welcome to the dark side, iPad.
