FYI, this story is more than a year old

This month we’re taking a look at one of the video game industry heavyweights -Square Enix. We hope to have various features like this in future covering several different developers throughout the year.

For those of you who find yourselves uninitiated, two words could probably sum it all up for you – Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy would be one of Square Enix’s most profitable and loved game franchises. Along with the various spin off’s the franchise has seen over the years (animated movies and even manga), you’d be hard pressed to find a gamer that hadn’t seen, played or heard of Final Fantasy in one form or another.

Recently, Square Enix celebrated their various successes with a 2007 Square Enix party in Tokyo. With sales for the Final Fantasy franchise numbering 68 million units world wide* and Dragon Quest which has also sold 40 million units worldwide**, it’s no wonder Square Enix have cause to celebrate.

Square Enix is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and develops, publishes and distributes their products throughout Japan, North America, Europe and Asia. The Final Fantasy franchise will be commemorating its 20th anniversary this year with special re-mastered editions of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II will be exclusively released for the PlayStation Portable in July, 2007.

This month Game Console takes a sneak peak at Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS. We’re looking forward to more turn-based fun and adventure from legendary game developers, Square Enix.
