Steven Joyce loses ICT portfolio

Prime Minister John Key has given the Communications and Information Technology portfolio to Selwyn MP Amy Adams in his post-election cabinet reshuffle.

The portfolio was previously held by list MP Steven Joyce, who has also lost the Transport portfolio but has gained Economic Development and Science and Innovation.

Joyce has moved to number 4 on the Ministerial list, while Adams is at number 20.

During his time with the portfolio Joyce oversaw the negotiations for the $1.35 billion Ultra Fast Broadband project, an effort for which he received a significant amount of criticism, most notably from Labour ICT spokesperson Clare Curran.

Adams is also Minister of Internal Affairs and Associate Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery. Her electorate includes an area of Canterbury stretching northwest from Christchurch up to Arthurs Pass, as well as Banks Peninsula.

How well do you think Steven Joyce has handled the ICT portfolio?  Is shifting it to Amy Adams a sign John Key thinks the hard work is done, or maybe an attempt to duck the barbs from Clare Curran? What do you hope to see from the new ICT Minister? Post your comments below.
