Taranaki to reap benefits of Spark 4G mobile coverage

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Spark has rolled out 4G across existing cell cites in the Taranaki region, the telecommunications firm revealed today.

The move enables Taranaki residents to have better access to Spark mobile coverage.

Colin Brown, general manager of Networks for Spark, says the vastly improved mobile network will allow locals and visitors to the area to stay constantly connected with family, friends and colleagues.

“We're always looking to improve access to mobile coverage across New Zealand and we're excited that Taranaki is now able to access the benefits of 4G,” Brown says.

“Taranaki is home to great surf, awesome events in the city of New Plymouth, and countless outdoor activities and now customers will be able to share it all via their mobile phones faster than ever before.

Spark's 4G coverage across rural Taranaki utilises the 700MHz radio spectrum, which means customers who have previously experienced slow internet speeds on a fixed line may now be able to sign up to Spark's Rural Wireless Broadband service.

“4G on the 700MHz spectrum is ideal for the rural and agribusiness sector which is vital to Taranaki, as the signal can travel further from the cell site than other frequencies,” explains Brown.

“Our Rural Wireless Broadband product uses the 4G mobile network and allows customers fast, reliable and affordable internet access,” he says.

“This is key for people who currently lack access to an adequate fixed internet service.
