Telecom offers targeted prepaid plans

Telecom is offering its prepaid mobile phone customers greater flexibility, with three new schemes that split $20 between voice calls, text messages and internet data.

The company is hoping its Prepaid Value Packs will appeal to customers who want to target the services they use most without having to be locked into a contract.

The voice-call pack, Talk, offers 40 minutes of calling on any network with an expiration limit of 90 days. In the TalkText pack, customers can add 1000 text messages at the cost of dropping the expiration limit to 30 days, while in the third option, TalkTextData, 200MB of data is added but the calling minutes are cut to 20. This option also expires in 30 days.

Kieren Cooney, Telecom chief marketing officer, says the packs will allow prepaid customers to customise their plans to suit their needs.

"Customers all use their phones differently,” Cooney says.

"While some people prefer to talk, others would rather text or send a tweet.

"These value packs are about giving our customers the power to ramp up their minutes, texts or data.”
