Time to roll another fat one in L.A. Noire
Thu, 14th Jul 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

L.A. Noire fans are about to succumb to a bit of reefer madness with the release of the final piece of downloadable content included in the Rockstar Pass deal. If you own L.A. Noire and haven't taken advantage of this deal, giving you all of the game's DLC at a bargain price, you ought to do it now.

The Reefer Madness DLC cheekily takes its name from the 1936 anti-drug propaganda film of the same name. The film, originally intended to highlight the evils of cannabis use, is viewed today as a corny cult comedy.

Reefer Madness sees Detective Carl Phelps return to the vice desk with his partner Roy Earle to investigate a marijuana distribution network in the city. An informer has given word to Lieutenant Colmyer about a Reefer distribution ring in the city. Phelps and Earle are dispatched to question the snitch.

Freddy agrees to part with the information in return for $20, giving the detectives an address. The armed welcoming committee confirms that something is indeed up. With two gunmen at the front of the house this writer decided to flank the felons, sending Phelp over the fence in the back yard. Many thanks, Team Bondi for making me the proud recipient of the Forcible Rear Entry Achievement. Nice.

The episode sees Phelps and Earle investigating a soup factory that likes to add an extra bit of seasoning to its cans, an interesting set of silver dollars and an immigration issue. The DLC will provide players with a decent hour or so of distraction. It is the lieutenant that has the final words, "Reefers are almost as much of a threat to the children of this city as communism”. Indeed.

Reefer Madness, along with Nicholson Electroplating and a host of other DLC for L.A. Noire, is available now for Xbox 360 and PS3 from Xbox Live Marketplace from the PlayStation Store.
