Top marks for Deus Ex: Human Revolution

British veteran gaming website, Computer and Video Games is reporting that top marks have been awarded to Deus Ex: Human Revolution by its affiliate gaming magazines.

The UK Official Xbox Magazine is reported to have awarded the game 10/10, whilst the latest issue of sister magazine, PC Gamer, has the game scoring 94%. The magazine review particularly commends the way the game rewards players for original thinking and exploration.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the prequel to 2000’s Deus Ex and its 2003 sequel Deus Ex: Invisible War. Set in a dystopian cyberpunk future, the game combines role-playing elements with other gaming genres giving players the choice of using combat, stealth, hacking, exploration or social interaction in order to uncover the truth.

Players take on the role of Adam Jensen, ex-SWAT operative, now hired to protect the secrets of Sarif Industries, a top American experimental biotechnology company. Wounded in an attack on the scientists that he was paid to protect, Jensen is mechanically augmented. He is then thrust into a world that challenges him to rethink everything that he knows and to question whom he should trust.

The game delves deep into a philosophical debate about what makes us human and how far we are prepared to go to better ourselves using science. In the world of Deux Ex mankind has started to exchange healthy body parts for mechanical enhancement just to be the best they can be. This puts them at the mercy of the biotechnology companies that provide the drugs that keep their bodies from rejecting the prosthetics. It’s pretty hard hitting stuff. Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been developed by Eidos-Montreal and is published by Square Enix Ltd. The game will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC on 25 August 2011.
