Review: Trakdot Luggage Tracker
Tue, 7th Apr 2015
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The Trakdot Luggage is a tracking device that proves its worth when it is used to provide peace of mind and a safety net for travellers.

Since I was heading to Wellington, I thought there was no better way than to test it in action.

Setting up the Trakdot Luggage is very easy. Plug in the batteries, take note of the device code, and switch it on.

The rest of the setup takes place in the accompanying app or through the website.

The Trakdot Luggage uses a cell phone signal to triangulate its position. The use of cell phone triangulation rather than GPS positioning provides it with an extremely long battery life.

The Trakdot Luggage goes to sleep automatically during flight, complying with regulations and saving battery life even more. Through the website you can set the Trakdot Luggage to text or email you on landing.

Following my flight to Wellington, I got off, but there was no indication where luggage would be or even if it had landed in Wellington (Thanks Jetstar :/). But it was immensely relieving to be able to fire up the app, log in and check that the bag was there in Wellington. Its bluetooth capabilities also allow you to see how far away your bag is, so you can follow it on the luggage carousel to your hand.

Summary

The Trakdot Luggage is great for peace of mind. The stress that be caused whilst searching for a bag is obvious. Even if your bag is lost, it's easy to track where it is and follow up with the airline. All in all, a great little tool for frequent travellers, or those who want to have peace of mind where their luggage is.

The ease of the Trakdot Luggage is its very strength, I threw it in the bottom of the bag, and promptly forgot about it. It wasn't until I needed it that I used it. The Trakdot Luggage then proved its worth, so a thumbs up from me.
