Uncharted 4: A Thief's End online multiplayer impressions
Fri, 13th May 2016
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The single player campaign of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is a downright masterpiece. As good as the single player is, what's the online multiplayer mode like?  Now that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is available to the public, we were finally able to test out the online multiplayer mode. The first thing players will notice is that the multiplayer mode is 60fps. This makes the gameplay fast and aiming more smoother than ever before.  In order to make the game 60fps, you will notice there is a slight dip in quality to the graphics. The single player campaign is gorgeous at 1080p, but the multiplayer is only set at 900p. The levels aren't as pretty in multiplayer, but they are still nice to look at as they are set in the same location.  The level design is quite cool in online multiplayer because they take advantage of the skills that Nathan Drake employs in the main game. You can swing from a rope and jump around like a monkey in order to avoid enemy gunfire and more. It's much more fun than the usual running and gunning matches you see in other games.  Another great thing this online multiplayer adds is a tutorial in order to get beginners up to speed. There is an extensive tutorial called "Trials" where you are told about everything you need to know about the online multiplayer mode. It's great to play through as you can practice here before you jump in against real-life players.  The other enjoyable thing about online multiplayer are the amount of bonuses and perks that you can unlock. If you get enough cash, you'll be able to call in A.I. support. This can include an A.I. partner that revives people, a person that uses a sniper rifle from afar to even a big guy with a Gatling gun.  Both the good guy and bad guy teams have different A.I. supports. It's quite fun to play around and see which one does the most damage to the opposing team. Not to mention you will be able to upgrade your weapons in order to make them more powerful and effective.  Another thing I like about the multiplayer is that pretty much every Uncharted character is playable here. You can play as the likes of Cutter, Chloe, Rafe and a whole lot more. The game also allows multiple players to be the same character too. It was quite hilarious to see a whole team of Nathan Drakes charging at me! The last thing I want to point out is that the online mode is quite smooth and I experienced no issues so far. The servers were going every time I logged in and I did not experience any lag. This is a nice change from the many game launches out there that suffered when they first came out.  The multiplayer mode as a whole is quite fun, although the thing I do miss is that it doesn't have a co-op element of any kind. We reviewed the single player can gave it a 9.5. Our score still sticks as the multiplayer is an added bonus.
