Warring telcos set court date
Tue, 6th Aug 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Telecom and Vodafone, in the midst of a High Court injunction, will battle it out in court on August 19.

With a Telecom spokesperson confirming the hearing, the application will seek to determine whether Vodafone's advertising campaign should be abolished or altered.

As reported in TechDay last week, the warring telcos are at loggerheads over what Telecom believes to be a “misleading” advertising campaign regarding Vodafone’s SuperNet branding.

At present, Vodafone’s advert describes the company’s infrastructure as the “best fixed-lined network.”

Speaking on behalf of Telecom last Friday, spokesman Andrew Pirie said the company believes the advert was “misleading to consumers and is therefore in breach of the Fair Trading Act.”

Requesting either the advert be changed or pulled, Telecom’s decision to apply for a High Court injunction has been met with stern resistance from its industry rival.

“We stand behind the Vodafone SuperNet campaign," a Vodafone statement said last week.

“We are confident in what we are communicating and we will be defending Vodafone SuperNet in court.”
