This year’s E3 gaming conference has been a lacklustre affair, most journalists seem to agree, with no info on next-gen consoles and only a few titles varying from the familiar, overdone guns-n-guts approach.
One of those titles was Watch Dogs, an intriguing offering from Ubisoft that combines the open world of Grand Theft Auto with the cyberpunk style of Syndicate.
What’s really exciting is that Watch Dogs is being built on an entirely new engine, producer Dominic Guay told VG247.
This could indicate preparations for the next generation of consoles; in a separate interview with The Verge, creative director Jonathan Morin wouldn’t rule out pushing the game to next-gen systems, although at present it’s definitely intended for Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as PC.
The game is set in Chicago, and Guay says the new engine has allowed them to add never before seen detail and density to the virtual city.
Although there is currently no release date, Guay says Ubisoft is ‘not shipping this year for sure’.
