Microsoft has invited technology journalists in the US to an announcement event in LA on Monday, although the company is aping Apple by offering no details about what's on the cards.

Several publications have posted the full invite, and the only phrase that doesn't relate directly to attendance details reads, ‘This will be a major Microsoft announcement – you will not want to miss it'.

The strongest guess about the event has come from All Things D, which has predicted that Microsoft will focus on Windows RT, the version of its new operating system designed to run on devices with ARM processors.

Citing ‘sources outside the company', the report says the event will not only show off the software but also ‘highlight some of the kinds of programs and services that will run on the products'.

Windows RT will only be available as a pre-installed OS on ARM-powered devices, and will officially only support software purchased via the Windows Store.
