FYI, this story is more than a year old

Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division has experienced a 60% year-on-year sales increase thanks largely to the performance of Xbox 360 and Kinect in recent months.

Gamespot reports that the division enjoyed revenue of US$1.94 billion during the January-March quarter, with an extra 2.7 million Xbox 360 units sold, which brings the console's lifetime unit sales to 52.7 million units. Kinect, the motion-sensing peripheral for Xbox 360 released late last year, continues to sell well; an additional 2.4 million units have shifted since it broke the Guinness consumer-electronics sales record back in March, selling 10 million units between November and March.

"We delivered strong financial results despite a mixed PC environment, which demonstrates the strength and breadth of our businesses," said chief financial officer Peter Klein. "Consumers are purchasing Office 2010, Xbox and Kinect at tremendous rates, and businesses of all sizes are purchasing Microsoft platforms and applications."
